I send my daughter to a school that has an unschooling philosophy.

Kids set goals on what they want to learn.

They spend 25% of the class time in normal classes.

Of the remaining time, half is spent independently following lesson plans created by the teachers.

The other half is spent creating and following their own lesson plans.

Tl;dr people, especially kids, who are supported in chasing their curiosity will learn things

My kids are taught math and reading in the morning by my wife, then go to public school (a small rural K-12 school with six kids per grade) to socialize. They are both quite advanced for their genetic capabilities.

    This is a weird comment, are you a supporter of eugenics? Are you also implying that your own genetics are subpar and that you are surprised they are doing well with the parents they have? I'm not sure how else to read that last line

      They are testing in the 97th percentile for their age, which is far beyond where I was at their age.

        So they are smart because of their upbringing, but you were less smart because of your genetics?
