Hey everyone,

A while back, I shared StringScales here on HN (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41243901), and the response was incredible. The feedback I got from that thread was so valuable, and I’ve spent the time since then implementing a lot of your suggestions.

I wanted to post an update, because I think it's a pretty useful one if you're learning scales and improvisation: an adaptive chord progression player (under "practice)

Since the launch, it has been the most requested feature, and I'm actually really happy with how it turned out. Now you can practice scales in context, with progressions that adapt based on your selected scale _and_ actually always fit the selected scale (so: minor progressions for minor scales, phrygian for phrygian scales, etc...)

It also shows which chord tones are active as you play, making improvisation much more intuitive (or, at least that's my own experience).

As before, StringScales is still completely free. The only "lock" is a restriction on some of the scales, progressions and instruments if you don't create a (free) account. You can still use the basics, but I'm trying to encourage account creation, because the next iteration will focus heavily on user-specific features such as custom scale creation, a more advanced harmony creator, exercises generator, etc... I'm hoping it's not something visitors trip over!

I built this to give back to the guitar community, and I’m still taking feedback seriously. If you checked it out before, I’d love to hear what you think of the new version.

You can play around with it here: https://stringscales.com/scales/C-major

Let me know what you think. Thanks for reading, and keep on playing!
