Gov. Hochul meets fearful CEOs, offers to share state intelligence with corps
politico.comWhat does that mean exactly?
Will they share information about individuals in a company? It’s insane to share state intelligence with corporations because corporate security could be any random person without any accountability or oversight. Corporations don’t have elected officials anywhere in their organizational structure, at least not from a public office perspective. Giving more information to people who may abuse it will just be anti-democratic.
But what justifies this action in the first place? Did state intelligence even know that Mangione would do this?
I think sharing information with people who cannot be held accountable by elected officials would just create more ways to stalk, harass or bully people. Is Gov. Hochul completely unaware of how society works?
From the article:
> the discussion will include the State Police as well as state Homeland Security and counterterrorism officials to show how intelligence can be shared with corporate security.
> “She understood how serious the impact of both the killing and the hateful reaction to it is, and she wants to make sure that the state resources, specifically the domestic counterterrorism resources, are focused on being supportive, sharing information,” Wylde said of her initial conversation with Hochul.
One murder in NYC provokes this? The plutarchy is scared now.
Imagine if they treated the deaths of commoners with such seriousness.
In other words, if you shared sympathetic memes, you're going to be tracked.
This is to make people feel better about risk in an operating environment where it’s impossible to guarantee their safety. Giving stakeholders warm fuzzy feelings and reassurances.
At this point that just means tracking everyone, which is as good as tracking no one at all.
Doesn't this sharing put lie to the "can't comment ongoing investigation" type of deflection that cops do? It's OK to "share intelligence" with CEOs of major corporations, but you can't tell citizens? I guess everyone is equal, but some are more equal.
Yes. The US is an oligarchy (soon to be kleptocracy) and the purpose of the police is to protect capital.
the purpose of the police writ large is to protect capital, but police officers deal with drug addicts and domestic violence calls for the most part. I can't imagine people with all their violent tendencies could live amongst each other peaceable without some measure of law enforcement.
