Why Did Android R8 Prefer BMW over Audi?

I do not miss Android development. Proguard was a pain to deal with, fragmentation led to hard-to-repro errors, most users being behind by several versions, and this R8 crud. I haven't experienced anything remotely like this in iOS development (nor backend JS).
