New AWS Graviton4 arm instances are 25% faster than previous generation
runs-on.comAWS recently released their r8g instance family with their latest Graviton4 arm CPU. I took it for a spin and added it to the benchmark I maintain of the fastest EC2 instances.
And it results in an impressive 25% faster CPU speed compared to the previous generation (m7g, c7g).
Not exactly impressive considering the prices have also increased as much.
For best performance Intel / AMD still has the edge.
For best price/performance it isn't exactly better.
Only r8g (large-memory instances) haver the latest CPU, hence the higher price, but this will make its way into c8g / m8g family types pretty soon I suppose. At this point they'll be same price (or probably cheaper) than c7g / m7g.

No, r8g costs more than r7g. Why would then the others be the same? Ultimately, yes, price/performance of r8g is better than r7g, but not much. When you consider that there was also a Graviton 3E...
m7g also costs more than m6g for example, but the performance increase was a lot higher to make it worthwhile. In this generation, not as much.
