Why does this need a Google sign in? I know it's been mentioned by others but hard pass.

Landing page nailed it, aesthetically.

ok so what makes this bloody brilliant is that it can claim to have the modern features of windows with the online user account requirement LOL

Why do I need to sign in with Google? So you can scrape my email? Why not just ask for my email?

For everyone wondering why the google sign in is required it's because the "app" gives you 5 free tokens to play with. It needs to be able to track that and just using google as your identity solution is way easier than rolling your own.

Juzt give them during the session. This seems like a novelty item, not something I'd return to over and over.

"Sign In With Google" -- nope! Not drinking the verification can for your novelty toy. That's how people's data got scraped off Facebook by Cambridge Analytica.

I described minesweeper and it came up with something, so that's fun.

Sign-in with Google SRSLY?

  • asveikau a year ago

I thought it was a joke at first. Can you imagine Google SSO on a Win32 app in the 9x era?

    • TaylorAlexander a year ago

Also thought it was a joke. Absolutely not signing in to google for an unknown app meant as a novelty, and I can’t imagine that’s necessary for this to function so I think it’s fair to say it’s a bad design, if not outright malicious.

Users are offered free tokens to test the app with and a google logon is as good as any to test with... I will agree it looks sketch though.

        • TaylorAlexander a year ago

It looks sketch and this is the kind of thing that could really benefit from a small explanation. Users land on what seems to be a joke/novelty website that is immediately asking them for google login information, with no explanation. As you can see from the reactions here, that did not go well. An explanation of the reason for the login would help a lot.

    Immediately left.

Same. I'm not logging in with Google to something that's just for fun

      • qwerty456127 a year ago

I'm not logging in with Google to anything. Please classic any-email or no-email (like here on HN) registration only (and don't forget to allow changing usernames and emails). As long as it is necessary. Better no registration at all. I used to be among the early OpenID enthusiasts preferring to sign-in with Google everywhere, then I realized what the actual pros and cons are and concluded that's not worth it.
