Why build your own moat when you can get Uncle Sam to build a wall around your tech oligopoly? I know a lot of folks are breathlessly heralding the coming of true AGI any minute now, but isn’t the extreme lobbying for this sort of regulation by tech giants more likely to be an admission that they see the LLM usefulness wall hitting sooner than later, and they’d like to milk the current tech hype cycle for profits while they figure out a viable path forward for their cloud lock-in business models?

This act means 1. all foreign workes with H1B visa will potentially be restricted from working at US on AI or AI infrastructure. 2. AI models and weights will be restricted from open source
