Show HN: Charmed AI- end to end tools for 3D video game art
charmed.aiHi HN, I'm Jeremy, the founder of Charmed AI (https://charmed.ai). We're building tools to make it way easier to build 3D content for video games.
In our 1.0 release, we're providing all of the tools needed to go from idea to game integration for an animated 3D game asset (walkthrough: https://youtu.be/ZjkFfGUJxCM). We offer apps for creating new 3D models, re-painting the surface of those models, and animating them. It's all organized around a cloud asset manager for team collaboration.
Something that makes us a little different than other 3D AI tools is that we're focused on the full 3D art production process. In the future, I don't anticipate magic command lines that summon forth content from sparse description. Instead, we're building toward a future where small teams of experts move much faster in an iterative process of creative discovery. For 3D art that means breaking down the barriers that have caused it to be a serial, waterfall process with long schedules, huge budgets, and many missed deadlines.
By using AI to enable a parallel, continuously-integrated art process- one where changes are automatically updated downstream (you added a tail to that lizard creature? Great, we'll re-produce the textures and animations and remove a painful, manual task)- 3D art will be produced in a fraction of the time and at a fraction of the cost.
Beyond the days and dollars, a 10x speed-up will allow studios to produce new kinds of content. South Park is an inspiration here. They parallelized the process of producing animated shows allowing animators, writers, and voice actors to work at the same time, while being able to view the state of the episode every day. Cutting their production time from 6-months to 1-week allowed them to talk about current events and pop culture- something games can't do today. It seems unbelievable, but making a new skin in a AAA game is a 6-month PM led program today.
These are the early days of a long journey, with many needed features and quality improvements yet to build. If you take a moment to try out Charmed, we'd very much appreciate your feedback!
