The 280M electric bikes and mopeds are cutting demand for oil
theconversation.comIt's confusing that the term "electric vehicles" (presumably invented to be more encompassing than "electric car") has now come to mean "electric car" and we now get lots of articles claiming that "electric vehicles" aren't perfect and we should use other (larger or smaller) electric vehicles instead.
But, still it's a good trend, bikes, mopeds, tuk-tuks, food trucks, busses, trains, cars, trucks, excavation equipment etc. they're all going electric and it's a good thing for local pollution and health, climate change and general societal progress. More people and things moving more cheaply.
Smaller EVs like scooters are also more convenient than cars to get around in a big city. And take less parking space.
Big cities in which a large (and increasing) % of the world's population lives.
But obviously the local climate is a factor. Few people would enjoy pushing through the snow on a 2-wheeler. In mild climates, very different story.
Anyway, good to see this making a dent in global oil demand. Iirc China already passed its peak oil due to the rising popularity of EVs there. But still:
"Global oil demand is now projected to peak in 2028 at 105.7 million barrels per day – and then begin to fall, according to the International Energy Agency."
Per DAY. Mind-boggling...
They really need a way to do cold weather micro mobility along with a way to secure them.
