Twitter US ad sales plunged 59%, and internal forecasts are grim, NYT reports
arstechnica.comI'm surprised that isn't a larger number. I rarely see major brands on Twitter anymore, which isn't surprising given how likely you are to be placed next to really brand-unsafe content. I guess they are going for a quantity, based on the massive influx of cheap Chinese knockoffs and grey area ads I have mostly been seeing.
Agreed. I tried to report a porn video reply to an Oreo ad today. Twitter basically told me that it wasn’t against the rules to tweet adult content, so I should change my profile settings if I don’t want to see such content rather than report it. Okay, but for some reason it routed me through signing in again even though I was using the app, and I couldn’t be bothered with looking up my password in that moment.
I’m not a prude, but I go to Twitter for news, not porn. And I can’t imagine that the Oreo people are excited to have porn next to their ads! I won’t bother ever trying to report such a thing again even if they change the rules.
Twitter (or should I say Elon) is shooting itself/himself in the foot here.
Looks like Elon might meet his goal of reducing ad revenue from 90% to 50% of total revenue. Just not the way he had hoped.
