Ask HN: How do I detect if the text is generated by ChatGPT using API?
I have come across AI text classifier https://platform.openai.com/ai-text-classifier, but wondering if there is an official API for the same or from a different provider. As far as I understood, computers can not detect the autogenerated text, because if they could then devs are having some obvious ways to improve. But since most of my reading time is books/whitepapers, I can distinct a great work of human work from anything else, but only in the disciplines I am interested in. This is as easy as detecting robot on phone. I can agree with you regarding books and whitepapers. But AI is getting close to Humans wrt to generating blogs and emails. So wanted a way to understand if i can detect this. I believe you are asking wrong question and what you really need is something else. Maybe you need an ability to read 100 letters per minute using AI-generated digest. Text is not a rich multimedia file like jpg, there are no hidden dots or something. Text is an API to the most cognitive parts of our cognition and there is no hidden astrology in the data as well. Text is supposed to be an omnipossible environment of senses and any progress in machine-readable semantics will lead to nothing except of even more advanced chat bots. Your question is like detecting my skin color and model of computer I typed this in based on the text of the comment you have already read.
