I hitchhiked over 6000 miles in 2014 across Europe and South America. I used hitchwiki.org pretty extensively to find spots to wait at.

Hitchhiking is definitely one of the funnest ways to travel if you have the time - you start every day not really knowing exactly where you will end up.
