What are your thoughts on my language learning app?
oh-aha.comGreat work! Easy to understand and use. Feels less like a conversation and more like a prompt and response flashcard activity. Which I personally like. I don't see the conversation part in terms of connecting the next language snippet in the continued context of the last.
This would be pretty awesome if you could get it to a point where the user is chatting in real time with the language AI like with https://beta.character.ai
Michel Thomas has one of the best language learning approaches. I'd recommend looking him up sometime if you're in need of other ideas and inspiration if you aren't aware of him already. (Though he passed away some time ago.)
Looking forward to seeing how this develops!
Thanks so much! I'll have a look.
I tried Japanese - without some form of hints for the kanji (whether regular furigana, or my preferred "hover-only" tips) I suspect it's probably going to be of limited usefulness for most learners. I like the idea though! Have you considered introducing TTS?
Also, after being asked "how are you", I said "Well and yourself", the response was "Me? I like soccer!", which is...well...an unusual response to say the least.
Yeah... It's not the brightest. Sometimes when you ask it how it is, it replies "I am functioning within my normal parameters". It seems to like to show off it's language skills?
The "normal parameters" answer was great, and I'm not even a Trekkie.
I just updated the AI to be a lot smarter - and it's improved now. You can try it out.
I made a language learning app, that lets you talk to AI in another language. After getting some feedback, I've improved it so that it's easier to use. Can I get your thoughts? PS: Technically this is a repost, because I need further feedback. My original post: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33116037
I tried a language with which I am unfamiliar, and do not think I could learn anything this way.
It was fun to practice with a language I'm functional with, but not a conversation.
I asked the thing if it was GPT-3 and it changed the subject to a very eliza-like prompt.
Thanks for the feedback. It's mostly for practising a language as a side, not as a MAIN language learning tool. PS: No, it's not GPT-3.
I updated the AI so that it's (a lot) smarter than before. Try it out!
Easy to use, and it's an interesting idea, I'll have to use it a bit more to see if I find it useful long-term.
Thanks, tell me what you think once you try it some more.
I tried the Spanish version. It did not work. It has potential but it's not ready to review.
What about it didn't work? It's fine for me.
The follow-ups to the initial questions just don't make sense. I'm a native Spanish speaker.
Oh, ok. Thanks for the feedback, I'll try to make some improvements to it's choice of words.
I just finished making it give more natural responses.
The Mandarin Chinese and Korean are showing the same language.
Oops, I know why. Gonna fix it now... Done.
