Hootsuite cutting 30% of staff in latest round of tech layoffs
globalnews.caVancouver tech market is taking a beating. Layoffs.fyi [0] shows 600+ let go in the last little while.
Conversely, I didn't realize that Hootsuite had almost 1500 people working for it.
Probably a lot more than 600 in the Vancouver area if you consider that a good chunk of Shopify's 1000 laid off were in Vancouver, not to mention all the other layoffs with Vancouver offices (Coinbase and Meta had Vancouver presences off the top of my head).
Regardless, I don't think there is any shortage of demand for software engineers in Vancouver/Canada... if anything I'm under the impression that Canadian companies basically weren't able to hire for ~1 year as the drought of talent from U.S. employers had them reaching across the border.
I think average salaries may go down a bit, but I don't expect decent devs with some experience to have a hard time getting employed (at least not at this point in the recession)
