Ask HN: Should I sign this NDA before job interview?
jsfiddle.netDo other roles in the same skillset and salary range require NDAs? If not, don't bother - it may be all above-board but why expose you to extra risk for no upside?
It is a requirement to sign this NDA before I can schedule an introduction interview with CloudKitchen. I haven't seen this kind of practice before and have some doubts about the risks of doing it.
Before signing any legal document, you should have a lawyer read it. If that is not an option, you absolutely must thoroughly read and understand it yourself, as best you can. Don't sign if any of it seems iffy, or you're unsure what you're on the hook for.
If you're still on the fence, you could go by the reputation of the company. In this case, it's CloudKitchens, which is run by Travis Kalanick. He was the founding CEO of Uber, kicked out for being altogether too nasty.
Cloudkitchens is known to be overly secretive about all aspects of its business, probably because their customers don't benefit from their customers knowing it's all made in a factory. That's probably where the NDA request comes from.
I'm not even sure there's enough consideration on the other side of the contract at the pre-interview stage, for the NDA to be valid. Definitely a strange practice at any rate.
Doesn't Google do this?
no
Any specific reasons? To me it's tradeoff between the rights I give up and the information/opportunity I get. I'm just afraid of traps.
