Trunk Merge
trunk.ioTrunk Merge is an intelligent service that orchestrates merging pull requests to maintain a repository of code that always passes tests. Airbnb, Uber, Twitter, Robinhood, and many other big tech companies internally have their own sophisticated merge queues. Now, you can get the same thing without having to build it.
Looks like in theory it works similar to other solutions I've seen, although those rarely get the polish I see in the video (since they're internal tools).
What's interesting is how many engineering teams put up with low-polish tools. It's not just the pretty-factor. Most in-house tools cannot justify the expense on building them to product quality - which means engineers suffer along.
Interesting. Having worked at Uber I've been curious why there aren't more of these types of services available to the public.
Had the same thought ourselves. World class DevEx (developer experience) has been the domain of big-tech for a long time. Probably one of the core dividers that make big-tech....big.
