The Tech Stack Behind a WASM and WebGL2 Battle Royale
blog.winterpixel.comFull Disclaimer: I worked on this game with OP.
I'm really excited about the future of WebGL (and eventually WebGPU games). I really like Godot for it's light weight, open source, focused nature. It's a good engine.
We'll be publishing more blog posts about our experience using Godot, writing netcode in Godot, and deploying to the web platform for games.
Thoughts on WebGPU?
I dont know enough about it to make a truly informed comment. I've read some pro and some con arguments. I'm more in support of the 'pro' arguments I've read and the 'con' arguments are for things I don't ascribe a lot of value to.
Most of the tech here is about the servers & services. So so so excellent seeing a 1 man shop (now 3) hoist up such an impressive backend system, take such off the shelf open source tools & snao together such neat gaming infrastructure. It's really happening- small operators can diy a real world environment together easily-ish.
Great to hear a very positive report on the Kubernetes based "Agones" game-server operator. Builtin metrics that get dropped i to the other snap in observability tools... everything looks so slick, so visible. Plug & play!
