What’s the Matter with PGP?
blog.cryptographyengineering.com>this sucks, that sucks, it doesn’t work how I like it to
That’s too bad, really. But it’s the nature of Free software, you don’t have to use it, you can fix it, script it, make whizzy graphical front ends… I really hate to say it but this comes off the same way as somebody ranting about how Gimp isn’t Photoshop. PGP works, it’s Free, and there’s nothing else widely available with anywhere near the utility.
You can't really avoid PGP if people use it to sign or encrypt their Git commits, files, packages or emails with it.
However there are better alternatives, for example age for encryption and minisign for signing and verifying. Signal for sending messages and files. Magic Wormhole for sending files.
PGP works, but it oozes bad practices. It's a swiss army knife that does almost everything, but nothing really that well.
